Kimi missed the title but gets the plaudits

Even though Kimi Raikkonen lost the 2005 drivers world championship to Fernando Alonso, he impressed a lot of people with his hard driving to win 7 races (several times from the back of the grid). Ultimately though Alonso won 7 races also and fully deserved the world championship title, but it seems more than a few people would have preferred Kimi to take it.

That's the only conclusion you can come to when Kimi was awarded the Autosport International Driver of the Year award yesterday. A few weeks earlier he was voted Driver of the Year by readers of F1 Racing magazine. In that case Fernando Alonso was awarded the rather incongruous title of Man of the Year.
